  • 1.5 hour session – knowledge load up covering the new credentials framework, NZGTTM and Risk assessment
  • An in the field assessment including setting up, maintaining and removing a shoulder closure, completing an inspection activity and minding a stop/go or lane diversion.

This event is designed to ensure that participants are utilising the latest risk-based approach with safe, effective and efficient practices when performing their TMO tasks.

Upon successful completion of this event, the participants will receive a certificate which can be used as proof of TMO current competence.

Why does an TMO have to prove current competence?

Under the health and safety legislation the company must ensure that staff remain current in their abilities.

TTM competency can be proven by:

  • Holding an appropriate unit standard (US31960)
  • Holding a current Waka Kotahi warrant (TMO P)
  • Or a company specific training program

NZTA has removed the warrant system, therefore there are no longer a way for a TMO to refresh their qualification.

The NZTA warrant system allowed for a three yearly refresher of competence as a TMO. There is no refresher requirement for any of the unit standards, they are awarded for life.

It is up to individual PCBUs to determine how they keep their staff current.
