TMO NP Workshop

This workshop covers all of the knowledge needed for the TMO to be able to install, maintain and remove TTM out of the lane, mind TTM in the lane and complete inspection activities.

Description

This workshop covers all of the knowledge needed for the TMO to be able to install, maintain and remove TTM out of the lane, mind TTM in the lane and complete inspection activities. 

The TMO NP workshop covers the following topics:

  • The TMO role (what you can and cannot do)
  • Risk assessment and managing risks
  • Knowledge of CoPTTM requirements and how to read a TMP
  • Completing inspection activities
  • Minding a worksite when STMS is absent
  • Completing worksite checks and paperwork
  • Briefing visitors
  • Managing manual traffic controller (MTC) activities
  • Dealing with common worksite situations
  • Dealing with the public and working with staff.

Qualification

This is a Waka Kotahi TTM warranted role: TMO-NP

There is a Unit standard which is completed during this workshop: US 31959 Demonstrate knowledge of stakeholder and operational
requirements for temporary traffic management

Prerequisites

TTM Worker unit standard, or;

A current or expired TC or STMS warrant.

Who it is for

A person on category A road environments who:

  • Sets up, maintains and removes TTM for roadside activities (TMD F2.5)

A person on category A and B road environments who:

  • Sets up, maintains and removes TTM for shoulder closures (TMD F2.7)
  • Maintains a worksite with TTM equipment on the lane while the STMS is away.
    Note: The TMO will not be able to setup or remove TTM equipment which is on the live lane.
  • Completes Inspection activities.
    Note: If the only activity the person performs is an inspection activity, then they should complete the Inspection learning block instead of the TMO learning block.

Any person who is intending to be:

  • an onsite STMS on category A, B or C road environments or an STMS for Mobile operations
  • a Traffic Operations Manager
  • a TTM Mentor, TTM Assessor or TTM Trainer
  • a TTM Planner, TMP Approver, TTM Auditor, Traffic Management Coordinator or Corridor Manager.

  • Fee for assessing and awarding the unit standard

Next steps

Before the TMO-NP can become practising, they must complete additional mentoring and an on-site practical assessment.

Refresher

Waka Kotahi warrants are refreshed every 3 years.

To refresh a TMO warrant the holder will need to attend a TMO-NP workshop. This renews the non-practising warrant.

The practising TMO warrant is renewed once the TMO practical re-assessment has been successfully completed.

The practising warrant will expire on the same date as the non-practising warrant.
