STMS Cat C Practising Assessment - US 31963

Fee for assessment $1000 plus $1,000 for hire of TTM vehicles and equipment - total of $2000.00. This is the practising assessment for a refresher STMS for Cat C roads (multi-lane roads - 70km/h or more roads).

Description

Fee for assessment $1000. The participant is responsible for supply of TTM Vehicles, equipment and crew.  Contact the assessor for confirmation of this requirement.

 There are 2 types of assessment:

  • Assessment for a new STMS (2 sites verified by a TTM Mentor and 1 site observed by a TTM Assessor)
  • Assessment for a refreshing STMS (1 site observed by a TTM Assessor).

Assessment for a new STMS 

  • This is completed after the new STMS has had 2 sites verified to standard by a TTM Mentor.

Assessment for a refreshing STMS

  • An STMS who has attended the STMS Refresher workshop also needs to complete a practising assessment for each category of road that they are operating on. This is the assessment for Cat C roads (multi-lane roads - 70km/h or more roads).

 

 

Assessment tasks to be completed for each worksite

For each worksite the STMS will be required to complete the following tasks:

Before leaving the yard

  • Initial check of TMP
  • Carry out vehicle checks
  • Carry out equipment check

Set up the site

  • Check the TMP suits the operation
  • Carry out TTM crew briefing
  • Direct the installation of TTM
  • Ensure equipment is used correctly
  • STMS drive through worksite inspection
  • Complete paperwork

Maintaining the site

  • Carry out visitor inductions
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed for safe entry to and exit from the worksite
  • Monitor traffic volumes and queues
  • Monitor pedestrian numbers and special requirements
  • Carry out site checks and self audits
  • Implement contingencies

Removal of TTM

  • Direct removal of TTM
  • Ensure equipment is stowed correctly
  • Complete paperwork.

Cat C Assessment (for either new STMS or Refresher)

The TTM Assessor will observe a live lane worksite with lane merge.

We do recommend working with a TTM Mentor to go over the assessment tasks to ensure the STMS understands the requirements of each component.

Prerequisites

  • Current STMS (C) -NP, and
  • TMO Practising current or expired no more than 12 months; or
  • STMS practising of any category current or expired; or 
  • STMS of any level held in the past.

Things to bring

Bring the required TTM Vehicles, equipment and crew.

Also bring a STMS Hi-vis garment, safety boots and safety glasses. Also bring other PPE (e.g. wet weather gear if there is a possibility of rain, or sun protection).

Refresher

Your organisation may require proof of current competency at regular intervals. Training Aspirations can help develop a current competency program with your organisation as required.
