Description

Training Aspirations has developed a Proof of STMS Mobile Current Competence which is completed in a group of four participants.

This group event includes:

  • Morning session – knowledge load up covering the new credentials framework, NZGTTM and Risk assessment
  • An in the field group assessment including setting up, maintaining and removing TTM for a common site (e.g stop/go or lane diversion).

This event is designed to ensure that participants are utilising the latest risk-based approach with safe, effective and efficient practices when performing their STMS mobile tasks.

Upon successful completion of this event, the participants will receive a certificate which can be used as proof of STMS Mobile current competence.

Why does an STMS have to prove current competence?

Under the health and safety legislation the company must ensure that staff remain current in their abilities.

TTM competency can be proven by:

  • Holding an appropriate unit standard (US31963)
  • Holding a current Waka Kotahi warrant (STMS AB P)
  • Or a company specific training program

NZTA has removed the warrant system, therefore there are no longer STMS Mobile Non Practising workshop or STMS Mobile Practising assessment.

The NZTA warrant system allowed for a three yearly refresher of competence as a STMS. There is no refresher requirement for any of the unit standards, they are awarded for life.

It is up to individual PCBUs to determine how they keep their staff current.

The Proof of STMS Mobile Current Competence is one way for a PCBU to prove it is keeping staff current.
